TWR has made a stunning return with the Supercat, a restomod of the iconic Jaguar XJS. This modernized, wide-bodied version of the classic British coupe is powered by a supercharged V12 engine delivering an impressive 669 horsepower. Designed in collaboration with car enthusiast Magnus Walker, only 88 units of the Supercat will be produced, each priced around €270,000 (excluding taxes).
TWR Resurrects the Legendary Jaguar XJS
For car enthusiasts familiar with motorsport history, the name TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) is likely well-known. Founded by Tom Walkinshaw, this British engineering and racing team achieved success in the 1980s and 1990s across various motorsport disciplines, including endurance racing, touring cars, and Formula 1. The company was also involved in the development of road cars, including iconic models like the Jaguar XJ220, Aston Martin DB7, and Renault Clio V6. Although Tom Walkinshaw passed away in 2010, his legacy lives on through his son Fergus, who revived TWR in 2020. Fergus’ vision for TWR Performance is to collaborate with major manufacturers and create exclusive, limited-edition vehicles. After years of development, TWR Performance unveils its first creation—the Supercat.
A Storied Connection with Jaguar
The choice of the Jaguar XJS for TWR’s first restomod vehicle reflects the deep historical ties between the company and Jaguar. TWR was the official team behind the Jaguar XJR-9 that triumphed at Le Mans in 1988 and had previously worked on special versions of the XJS during the 1980s and 1990s. For the Supercat, TWR enlisted the help of renowned car designer Magnus Walker, known for his collection of modified classic Porsches. Walker brought in Khyzyl Saleem, an innovative designer famous for his virtual vehicle creations, to lead the project’s design. Walker and Saleem share a passion for bold, unconventional designs, which is evident in the striking look of the Supercat.
A Race-Inspired Look and Lightweight Carbon Fiber Body
The Supercat features an entirely bespoke carbon fiber body, which reduces the car’s weight to 1,605 kg—165 kg lighter than a standard XJS. The chassis is reinforced with a tubular steel frame for added rigidity. The vehicle’s widened stance (nearly 8 cm wider than the original) gives it a more aggressive and dynamic appearance. The front hood is deeply sculpted with LED vents and a large, functional air intake. A sleek front splitter, side vents behind the front wheels, and prominent side skirts with dedicated cooling ducts for the rear brakes emphasize its high-performance nature. A roof spoiler flows seamlessly into the rear window, and at the back, the car sports a “ducktail” spoiler and an oversized rear diffuser for added downforce.
The Supercat also features custom 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, replacing the original 15-inch rims. The initial prototype showcases a bold turquoise metallic finish, while a second model was unveiled in a more subdued grey.
Interior Overhaul: Modern Comfort with a Racing Edge
Inside, the Supercat has been completely revamped. The rear seats have been removed to increase cargo space, and electrically adjustable front seats have been installed. The interior is finished in high-quality leather that extends across the dashboard, creating a refined, modern atmosphere. The traditional analog dials have been replaced with a fully digital instrument cluster, adding to the car’s cutting-edge feel.
Powerful Supercharged V12 Engine
Under the hood, the Supercat is powered by a 5.6-liter V12 engine, developed by TWR and fitted with a supercharger. The engine delivers a hefty 669 hp and 730 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car’s redline is set at 7,750 rpm, giving the Supercat both exceptional power and a thrilling driving experience. It also features an adaptive suspension for improved handling.
While TWR has yet to release specific performance figures, the Supercat is expected to offer remarkable acceleration and handling. The car is built for those who appreciate both speed and luxury, with a price tag starting at £225,000 (around €270,000) before taxes.
Limited Production: Only 88 Units Available
Production of the Supercat is limited to just 88 units, making it an ultra-exclusive collector’s item. The first deliveries are expected in the summer of 2025, and potential buyers can reserve their car with a deposit. The Supercat combines the best of classic design with modern performance, making it a rare gem in the world of restomods.
